The Dreamer
Penang-born Delwin Cheah has always believed in dreaming big. What began as a young boy’s imagination has since grown into a story that has inspired people around the world. His artistic journey has touched world leaders and transformed him from an ordinary child into a celebrated artist.
Rising Beyond Limits
Diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome at age 5
Scored a 114 in non-verbal IQ, higher than average
Despite challenges, he discovered his extraordinary gift in art
His talent became his voice—and a way to contribute to his community and nation
Early Global Recognition
At just 8 years old, Delwin’s artwork caught the attention of Dr. Rosa Martinez, President of Strokes of Genius, New York—an international organization that supports savant artists from around the world.
Record-Breaking Artist
With support from Mr. Ch’ng Huck Theng, founder of One East Museum, Delwin held his first solo exhibition featuring over 70 paintings. This achievement earned him:
World Record – “Youngest Savant Artist to Hold a Solo Art Exhibition” (RecordSetter USA)
Malaysia Book of Records – “Youngest Artist (ASD) to Hold a Solo Art Exhibition”
Best Award in Art Category (2014)
A Global Inspiration
Delwin’s story of “making the impossible possible” continued to inspire globally. His early artworks featured in the book “I Can Draw” unexpectedly reached the White House.
In 2014, he received a personal letter from President Barack Obama, praising his talent and encouraging him to dream bigger.
In February 2015, another honor arrived—this time from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who expressed admiration for his achievements.
Art With Purpose
Delwin’s love for nature and endangered wildlife led him to collaborate with WWF Malaysia. He designed a limited-edition “Malayan Tiger” t-shirt to raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation.
National Icon
On 15 April 2017, Delwin was officially recognized by the Malaysian Government as a Country ICON – “Ikon Negaraku” at a National Inspiration & Unity event.
